Khalid Iraqui, Highgate’s Director of Dining Services, brings to Highgate over 20 years of experience as a chef at high-end restaurants and hotels. He developed recipes for Highgate’s signature health bars that not only promote everything from a stronger immune system to healthy joints and bones and lower cholesterol but also taste good.
For example, the Almond Apricot Bar helps regulate blood pressure. Almonds contain monounsaturated fat, protein, and potassium that lower blood pressure and are good for the heart. Vitamin E acts as an antioxidant and reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases. The magnesium in almonds helps to prevent heart attacks. Almonds can reduce C-reactive protein, which causes artery-damaging inflammation. Apricots contain a fat-soluble vitamin that aids in vision and immune-system functioning.
“We have eight different types of health bars made with all-natural ingredients,” he says. “The most popular is the Almond Apricot, but my favorite is the Dark Chocolate Bar. It’s chewy.”
